Atoms and Radiation

Lesson Aim

  • Reviewing and reinforcing the concept of the atom
  • Reinforcing Atomic Decay and Radiation
  • Creating a website in Webplus

Starter

Review the structure of an atom, the periodic table and Radiation

Main Task

Your task is to create a revision website for students to cover Atomic theory and Radiation

Your website must include the following:

  • Structure of a atom
  • Particles which make up an atom (Protons, Neutrons and Electrons)
  • Explanation of Atomic Number and  Mass Number
  • Periodic table and groups of the periodic table
  • Unstable atoms and atomic decay
  • Types and properties of different Radiation
  • Half-life
  • Harms and Benefits of Radiation

Python – Practical Task

Lesson Aim

  • Use python skills gained to create a program to produce a solution
  • Design and implement a python program

Starter

How do we design a program.  Identify the variables, create an algorith and then produce the program

Main Task

Create a program which requests the length of the Opposite and adjacent sides of a right angled triangle and the calculates the Hypotenuse using the pythagoras theorem.

Extension

Modify your program to allow calculation of the other two sides.

Plenary

Review how to design a program – identfy variables and then  produce code

Introduction to Databases

Lesson Aim

  • Learn key database terms
  • Create a Database in Access
  • Add Data to a database

Main Task

Create a table in  Access to store data about customers of a video library.

Ensure you create a Key field and and you use appropriate data types and Field sizes

Add 10 records to your database

ICT Fun

Introduction to Computer Hardware

Lesson Aim

  • Understand the differences between input and output devices and recognise where sensors are used in everyday objects

Starter

As a class view presentation and identify the key computer peripherals as input, output or storage devices.

Presentation

Main

Create a Word Document with the title Inputs and Outputs.

Create and complete a table like this:

Table

Extension Task

For each of the different types of sensor, state an everyday item that uses this sensor and explain how it is used. Here’s a reminder of the different sensors:

  • Light
  • Temperature
  • Moisture
  • Pressure
  • Motion
  • Smoke

Plenary

  1. What is a peripheral device?
  1. Give an example of an output device connected to a computer.
  1. Is a mouse an input or an output?
  1. Give an example of an everyday device that contains a sensor. How is it used?

Year 9 – GCSE ICT

Lesson Aim

  • Understand the importance of corporate image
  • Use a graphics package to create a logo

Starter

Introduce the project scenario, using ICT to help with the school Wizard of Oz production. Students brief is to produce promotional, financial and ticket systems for the production

Main

Create a logo for your promotional material which will help develop the corporate image.  The logo needs to reflect the school and the Wizard of Oz. You will then need to prepare a cast member card for all performers, which they may use to gain early entry for dinners.

Plenary

Review the importance of using suitable corporate image
